The Um El-Faroud was built in 1969 and is about 110 meters in length. In February 1995, while it was docked in the Malta dry-docks, the vessel was damaged when an explosion occurred. In September 1998 Um El-Faroud was sunk off the shore of Wied iz-Zerrieq at a depth of 36 meters, creating a diving attraction for all divers to enjoy.
